Gala Report - Monday 8th December 2008
The club gala was a huge success with
more swimmers than ever taking part. A new event
at the gala was the introduction of
a 25m or 50m freestyle race for our swimmers with a disability, who
train on a Sunday afternoon. The swimmers enjoyed the experience and
it is hoped that they will continue to train hard and compete in
future galas. The club has just employed a new coach, Glen Fenby,
who will be working with some of these swimmers in the New Year, on
a Sunday afternoon, helping them to achieve their potential.
There were a lot of swimmers from C1
and C2 who were competing in their first ever club gala, they all
did well and some came away with medals to show for their hard work.
The fastest 6 boys and girls in the 50m breaststroke swam in a
'skins' competition, where they have to swim 50m every 3 minutes on
different strokes with slowest swimmer in each heat being
eliminated. After a very tactful event Philip and Emma Hodgson were
again crowned winners for the second time this year.
A special mention must go to the
parents who helped with the raffle and programme selling which
helped to raise £80.00 for club funds.
Club Gala Report - Monday 23rd June 2008
Many of our club
swimmers took part in the first club gala of the year. This years
gala included a 200m freestyle for some of our swimmers who are now
competing competitively for Sedgefield 75.For many swimmers this was
their first gala and hopefully they all enjoyed themselves and they
might be encouraged to train hard and be able to compete in galas
for the club.
All the swimmers did
extremely well and the results can be viewed by clicking on the
results for June 2008.
Special mention must
go to Aaron Morton, who has just turned 9 competed in the 50m
backstroke, 50m butterfly and the 200m freestyle. Aaron swam
fantastically and came 1st in all 3 events, gaining his county
qualifying times for 2009.
Also, Jake Cuenca has
joined our club as a guest swimmer for the next two months. Jake
lives in America and is visiting relatives in the area and will
train with the club whilst he is here. Jake turned up on the night
to see if he could train and was asked if he wanted to join the
gala, which he promptly agreed to. Jake swam in both the 50m events
and from the results we can see that he is a promising swimmer in
the making and he is still only 8 years old. He trains for his local
club for 1 hour every day in an outside pool regardless of the
weather, all his hard work and determination is obviously paying
off.
Finally a special
mention must go to Philip and Emma Hodgson, who are brother and
sister. Both Philip and Emma qualified for the 'skins' competition
and both fought off the opposition but had enough strength left to
win the swim off and both be crowned 'skins' champions for June 2008
Well done to all
competitors and thank you to all parents who volunteered to help out
on the night. The club gala can not take place without your help.
